This concrete thing is pretty cool – it’s almost like a set of five different concrete homes, surrounded by concrete walls, patios, decks, and sitting areas. A perfect place for a large extended family to vacation!

This tiny cabin is located in Palo Duro Canyon State Park just outside Amarillo, Texas. It’s only two rooms and I have no idea what the inside looks like, but I love it. For a rock cabin in the desert it really looks comfortable and inviting!

There are trees nearby, but none were used for the actual house. But that’s okay, because the house looks great! However, I’d be nervous living in a house like that here in Seattle – I’d worry that even the slightest tremor would topple the whole thing over.

It’s no secret that I love the idea of building with shipping containers. Just plop them down, hook up some wiring, and you’re good to go! Okay, not exactly. But it would be reassuring to know that the walls aren’t going to fall over in the next windstorm.

I’m not sure I love the location, it might be hard to meditate while sitting in a room over a bog, but I love the idea. It looks like this little cabin could withstand a lot, and it’d be a lot of fun here in the Pacific Northwest where it rains rather frequently. Perch one of these near a body of water (away from your main house), and it’d be like a second little sleeping cabin.

I love these little Pod Homes, they are so cute. You can hook multiple Eco Pods together, or build them with multiple levels. They are just adorable!

This design might be harder to replicate here in the Northwest than others, but I still like the idea. Who says that a vacation home has to be permanent? This would be a great temporary solution, if nothing else.

Inhabitat has a great article about the rehabilitation of the Forum Homini Hotel in South Africa. As it is located on environmentally-sensitive land and near a World Heritage Site, great care had to be taken in updated the property. Much of the construction material was rehabbed from the old site, and all invasive plant species were removed.

Additionally, wetlands were restored, an old septic system was removed, and 140 indigenous local plant species were introduced. It’s a wonderful restoration, and I love that green roof!

Sure, I could wax on and on about the green extras built into this house. From the radiant in-floor heat to low VOC paint to heat recovery ventilator, this house has tons of extras. But the main thing I’m interested in is that front door! It’s hand carved, cantilevered, and perfectly circular. I love it!

April 16-17 is the South Sound Green Tour, and this is one of the 20 tour sites. I’m hoping I get to go!

I think the only reason I like this house is because it looks like a fortress!
