Tiny, Cute Teahouse

There’s something about Teahouses that I love. It’s probably the relaxing, zen-like atmosphere, but I can easily see myself relaxing in a the space, kicking back, watching the waves, the birds, or the rain.

This tea house is roughly 6′ by 6′ (the size of two tatami mats), and the simple, open construction looks like it could be put together fairly quickly. I covered sleeping platform like this could cheaply tide me over on my land for a few years!

68 Square Foot Guest House

68 Square Foot Guest House

How do you create a full guest house in only 68 sq ft? You have to be clever – very clever. And that’s what homeowner Hal Davis here in Seattle is, without a doubt.

The main floor of the guest house has a small desk, couch, and a strange door built into the floor. Beneath that door? The bathtub, of course! The couch folds down into a bed, and beneath the guest house is a small covered grotto, perfect for cups of coffee or wine on cool, rainy days. For those sunny days, you can relax on the grassy roof of the guest house. I love the way he used space!

Holick Sea Resort Timber Cabin

Holick Sea Resort Timber Cabin

This lovely timber cabin, called Holick Sea Resort, was built in 2011 in Sweden. Designed by architects Mats Edlund & Henrietta Palmer, it measures at 90sq m and was made using traditional Swedish building methods. By that, I assume it was transported on-site in a cardboard box, and put together completely with a single hex wrench. (Ikea joke! Yeah!)

Bad jokes aside, the cabin is really beautiful. It’s simple, but not overly so, and looks very inviting and warm. I love it.

Modern Aspen House

There’s a lot to like and this great, modern house in Aspen. But I especially LOVE the bunkbeds, and I never thought I’d say that. Check them out!

Fun Elliptical Boat House

Even something simple like a boat house can be fun and interesting. This elliptical boat house, called the Shore Vista Boat Dock, is made much more interesting by its shape – and by the awesome waterfall. There’s not much to dislike here.

Bainbridge Island Beauty

A great example of quintessential Northwestern architecture, this Bainbridge Island home was designed by BC&J Architecture for a retired couple looking for plenty of spaces for relaxation, while taking advantage of the beautiful views of Puget Sound.

I love the woodwork, the unique roofline, and the relaxing interior design. Very nice.

Unique Bohemian Deco Trailer Home

Collected and restored by Pierre Arnoux outside Deauville, France, this beautiful trailer home has been wonderfully redone in a Bohemian Deco style reminiscent of the 1960s. At first glance the trailer seems tiny, and it is only 20 sq meters. But once you get inside, the home really opens up and provides plenty of living space. Check it out!

Small Green Houseboat

Small Green Houseboat

Living in Seattle, I can’t help but love houseboats. Unfortunately, I’ve never even stepped foot on one – but I’d love to take my first step on the beautiful Schwimmhaus (though I’d have to go to Germany to do it).

Schwimmhaus sports a green, living roof, and was built largely with salvaged wood. The interior is somewhat small, but still around 490 sq ft, which isn’t bad (assuming my rusty German and rusty math skills are up to par).

It’s a great looking houseboat, I love it.
