Living in Seattle, I can’t help but love houseboats. Unfortunately, I’ve never even stepped foot on one – but I’d love to take my first step on the beautiful Schwimmhaus (though I’d have to go to Germany to do it).
Schwimmhaus sports a green, living roof, and was built largely with salvaged wood. The interior is somewhat small, but still around 490 sq ft, which isn’t bad (assuming my rusty German and rusty math skills are up to par).
It’s a great looking houseboat, I love it.

I think this Iceberg Retreat is a great idea. It seems as though it’d be much more stable in stormy weather, plus as it’s half underwater it’d give you spectacular underwater views!

The MetroShip house boat is a large modern houseboat that took almost 7 years of design and development. Inspired by New York loft spaces, it features translucent walls, hardwood floors, and many high-end design components. And a view out your bedroom window that can’t be matched!

Here’s another home from Yossawat that I love. This houseboat is just fabulous, with a giant rooftop deck. And how about that view from the office? Wow.

UK-based Kingsley Architects have come up with a new way to live off-grid: in a floating caravan-style home. These small house boats will be solar powered, with many of the green features that you’d expect. They’re nice looking, to boot.

Maybe it’s because I live in Seattle, but I love houseboats. This home on Lake Huron is really more of a floating house than any sort of boat, but it still fits the bill. The interior is beautiful, but it’s the location that takes the cake.
