This quirky and fun villa is located along Lake Vidostern in Sweden, near the village of Varnamo. I love the exterior – it reminds me so much of cabins near where I grew up in Washington. Simple and unassuming, it’s not refined, modern, clean, or bold. But it looks comfortable and relaxing, which is the most important thing (to me, at least).
The interior… is bold. Big stuffed animals? Check. A small car in the living room? Check. Bright red ceiling in the bedroom? Check. Completely awesome stairway to the second level? Check. It’s not for everyone, that’s for sure!

Ohmygod I love this. Clustered around a man-made canal on the Colorado River in Austin, Texas, The Lake Austin House is made up of a series of structures and inter-connected outdoor spaces along a 200-foot boardwalk. The bedrooms and study are all grouped in separate buildings, but all the buildings are sited to get the proper sun, wind, and views. This really is perfect.

Awesome. But someone should probably check out that extra-dimensional portal at the end of the hallway. That looks dangerous.

It may not be the most practical space, but it sure looks inviting. It’s at a resort in Bali – I might need to go do some blog research!

Now this is Northwest style. Lots of wood, windows, and a spectacular view of the water!

Off-Grid houses don’t have to be ugly, and as Case in Point #1 I’d like to point you to this stunning home in Ontario. It has a living green roof, it utilizes the thermal mass of a large boulder for heating, solar power throughout, plus a cool solar thermal system to heat the floors and thermal storage tanks.
Really that’s just the tip of the iceberg – it has tons of great sustainable features to make you drool, and a view to bring tears to your eyes.

What makes Barerock wonderful is the way it blends with the forest, and that was exactly the plan. Built 70 feet above Drag Lake in Ontario, the cabin is constructed on 14 concrete piers, and it almost looks like the cabin floats above the pine needled forest floor. The cabin is a simple one-story design, and looks awesome.

This is technically a treehouse, but it’s greater than any treehouse I’ve ever seen. It has a 1,00 square-foot roof garden, domed skylights, composting toilets, and it’s built on a foundation made from recycled telephone poles. The best part of the treehouse is that its at Camp Twin Lakes, an area set aside from kids with special illnesses, disabilities and other types of challenges. What a wonderful design and idea.

This is another dream home. I don’t know if it’s the home itself, the patio, or the location, but it’s awesome. I even love the stairs down to the home!

Just by looking at this peaceful lake house I feel more calm and relaxed. Imagine sitting at that table with a cup of coffee and a good book – nice… I’d prefer the interior to be a little less austere, but the location can’t be beat!
