The best part of this cabin – called Feral House by designer Matali Crasset – is that is doesn’t have a foundation, and can fairly easily be moved around its forest home, all without causing any undo harm to the forest. What an awesome thing that would be! If you had a big tract of land, you could move your house around depending on the time of year and your mood!

There’s something about Teahouses that I love. It’s probably the relaxing, zen-like atmosphere, but I can easily see myself relaxing in a the space, kicking back, watching the waves, the birds, or the rain.
This tea house is roughly 6′ by 6′ (the size of two tatami mats), and the simple, open construction looks like it could be put together fairly quickly. I covered sleeping platform like this could cheaply tide me over on my land for a few years!

This lovely timber cabin, called Holick Sea Resort, was built in 2011 in Sweden. Designed by architects Mats Edlund & Henrietta Palmer, it measures at 90sq m and was made using traditional Swedish building methods. By that, I assume it was transported on-site in a cardboard box, and put together completely with a single hex wrench. (Ikea joke! Yeah!)
Bad jokes aside, the cabin is really beautiful. It’s simple, but not overly so, and looks very inviting and warm. I love it.

There’s a lot to like and this great, modern house in Aspen. But I especially LOVE the bunkbeds, and I never thought I’d say that. Check them out!

Is an 11,000 sq ft home huge to you? It is to me, by about 10,000 sq ft. Regardless, there’s a lot of love (and hate) about this home. The “northwest” parts I love – the beautiful woodwork, exposed beams, and zen-like feel. The “contemporary” parts that I hate can be boiled down to the concrete. It’s so cold, and hard. The bedroom looks like a garage. But, to each their own, right?

There are three different Granite Mountains in Washington state, and I don’t think this is the popular one near Seattle. That one is steep and treacherous. This Granite Mountain vacation home is probably located in Okanogan County, which is about 4 hours from Seattle in the beautiful Methow Valley. Why does this matter? It doesn’t. This is a beautiful vacation home. 2,160 sq ft in a nice L-shaped plan with a breezeway to the garage and guest house, the steeply pitched roof is important for the snowfall. I also love the concrete interior – it’s a little cold, but it still fits in nicely, and it’s easy to clean!

This interesting bit of architecture is dubbed the “Black Teahouse”. Located in the Czech Republic, the Black Teahouse has as its key feature striking black exterior wood. How did they get the wood black? Why they burnt it, of course.
I don’t know how or why they burn the exterior wood, other than it looks great. It seems like it would be exceptionally hard to seal the wood, and it would rot quickly – at least here in the Pacific Northwest it would. Still, I love the wood details, and the small space wouldn’t be too hard to build.

I love the exterior of this small rustic house, built in a garden in Spain. I’m normally not a fan of rustic, but if this is what rustic looks like, I’m all for it! Full sliding doors plus the solidity of thick wood crossbeams, it’s just awesome.

They even have a swing!

This place is impressive. Dubbed the Pretty Beach House, it’s an all-inclusive retreat set just north of Sydney, Australia. And it is amazing. It appears to have at least 3 different pools, handmade artwork throughout, and a spectacular view of the ocean. This house makes me run out of superlatives to describe it!

I love this house, especially the use of concrete and wood together. I don’t always see good examples of that. The view isn’t half bad, either.
